District Level Chess Competition 2026 at Vidyodaya Pre-University College
The District Level Chess Competition for Pre-University students was conducted at Vidyodaya Pre-University College, in association with the Department of School Education (Pre-University), Udupi, on Saturday, 22nd August 2026. Over 220 student players from 37 colleges of Udupi District participated, displaying great focus, brilliant tactics and excellent sportsmanship throughout the rounds.
The programme began with an enchanting prayer song by the students of Vidyodaya Pre-University College, followed by a warm welcome address by Sri Sandeep Kumar, Principal, Vidyodaya Pre-University College. The programme was officially inaugurated by Shri N. Nagaraja Ballal, President, College Management Committee, by lighting the lamp.
In his inaugural address, Shri N. Nagaraja Ballal highlighted how every setback on the board teaches patience, perseverance, decision-making and accountability. He stressed the value of critical thinking and sportsmanship and emphasized how chess builds logic, patience and quick decision-making.
The function was graced by the presence of Shri Sukesh Shetty, President, Physical Education Lecturers Association, Udupi, and Shri Dinesh Shetty, Udupi District Sports Co-ordinator, along with other notable invitees and dignitaries from the community.
Shri Verendra Shettigar, Physical Education Lecturer, Vidyodaya Pre-University College, was the overall in-charge of the programme. Shri Shivaprasad Bhat, Lecturer, Department of Sanskrit, proposed the vote of thanks and also compered the programme.
